PHARR, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility arrested a 33-year-old man from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico in connection with a failed drug smuggling attempt of $385,560 worth of alleged cocaine.

“Continued vigilance and alertness from our frontline officers at the cargo facility has enabled them to intercept these hard narcotics that were meticulously concealed,” said Acting Port Director Javier Cantu, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “A sound enforcement posture allows us to continue detecting illicit contraband and keeping our communities safe.”

CBP officers working at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility on May 4 encountered a truck driver arriving from Mexico in a blue 1989 Kenworth tractor. CBP officers referred the conveyance for a vehicle non-intrusive imaging system inspection. A subsequent secondary search of the tractor revealed packages of suspected narcotics hidden within the batteries and removal produced 24 packages of alleged cocaine weighing approximately 50 pounds. CBP OFO seized the narcotics and the Kenworth tractor.

CBP OFO arrested the truck driver who was then released to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
